The Hamas War's Effects on Israel's Strategic Relations in the Middle East and With U.S. Jewry

For this year’s Tillie and Max Stein Family Lecture, we welcome Michael Eisenstadt, Kahn Senior Fellow, Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

The Hamas War's Effects on Israel's Strategic Relations in the Middle East and With U.S. Jewry

The war had unmistakable impacts on both realms. Were they temporary or transformative? In the coming months and years, what are the observable signs that will tell us that Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and Iran have significantly changed their outlooks toward Israel? What preliminary conclusions may be made about the war's impact upon American Jewish views (embrace and distancing) of Israel among different demographics?

Michael Eisenstadt is the Kahn Senior Fellow and director of the Military and Security Studies Program at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy. A specialist on Arab-Israeli and Persian Gulf security affairs, he has published widely on irregular and conventional warfare, and nuclear weapons proliferation in the Middle East. Prior to joining the Institute in 1989, Mr. Eisenstadt worked as a military analyst with the U.S. government. He also served for twenty-six years as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, including deployments to Iraq, Turkey, and Israel, before retiring from the reserves in 2010. He is a scholar of Jewish and Islamic History. RSVP here.
