Learn to Chant Torah
10:00 am Sundays, in January and February 2021
Gene Rubel will teach Torah trope as well as understanding the Torah reading ceremony. At the end of the course, the student will read an aliyah from the Torah on a Shabbat morning. The purpose of this course is to prepare students to read subsequently rather than focusing on the one reading. The teaching will start with Shma and end with the ten commandments, and will include: Reading text with meaning using cantillation marks as guides, Learning the alphabet of trope, Breaking down a reading, Actual ceremony and tips for preparation and actual participation. Extensive material will be provided in DropBox to augment class sessions.
Prerequisites: Elementary Hebrew reading. The student must commit to practice for 15 minutes every day during the eight-week course.
