Upcoming Events

A Guide For the Perplexed: Exploring Judaism with R' Lauren
7:00 pm Wednesdays: December 15 | January 19 | February 16 | March 23 (Post Purim) | April 20 | Ever felt like you didn't even know where to begin in your exploration with Judaism? Or felt like the "4th child" at the Passover seder, who wasn't sure what questions to ask? I promise - you're not the only one! Rabbi Lauren will cover big questions and topics that mystify many of us about: the structure of the Friday night service; how to wrestle with a concept of God that just doesn't make sense anymore; and other big questions about how this ancient tradition fits into our 21st century lives. Each month will focus on a different topic that's on our minds - so bring your big, thorny questions and let's dive in. Please RSVP and let us know if you will be attending in person or via Zoom!

One Prayer Deep Dive: A Siddur Book Club
8:00 am Tuesday, December 7 (follows Minyan)
If you’ve ever sat in services and wished that you could better understand just one prayer at a time before moving onto the next one, this class is for you! Led by Rabbi Lauren, we’ll gather on Zoom to journey prayer-by-prayer through the morning service, looking at just one prayer a week (and occasionally, over multiple weeks). No Hebrew knowledge or prayer expertise required... just bring your questions, curiosity, and a siddur/prayerbook if you have one (we’ll also be sharing text on screen for those who don’t have a siddur at home).

Stories of Darkness and Light
7:00 pm Thursday, December 2 | As we approach the longest night of the year, join us to hear several Or Hadash members tell their own story of how mental illness - their own or their loved ones’ - touches their lives. We know the darkness is real, and we know the light is, too, and we are here to love and witness each other through all of it. Your RSVP is requested.  Zoom link on Home Page.

Hanukkah Kabbalat Shabbat and Dinner
Friday, December 3 | Join us for Hanukkah Kabbalat Shabbat Services at 6:30 pm and Hanukkah Dinner at 7:45 pm as we bring in the holiday. We'll be enjoying latkes, salad, soup, and desserts: Sufganiyot, Hanukkah cookies, brownies, and gluten free options! Dinner Cost: $10/individual, $18/family or individual + guest. RSVP Now!

Jews and Taboos Sessions for 8/9th and 10th Graders
4:30 pm Sunday, December 5 | Post b'nai mitzvah, our teens are invited to join teacher Rachel Lazarus for monthly discussion of topics that are important to our teens as they move farther into Jewish adulthood, but tend to to make some people uncomfortable. Topics are geared toward the interest of the group; and that most taboo of subjects ... God. For more information about this program, please reach out to Dr. Amy.

Hanukkah/Rosh Hodesh Tevet Celebration
6:00 pm Sunday December 5, 2021 | Latkes & Salmon Buffet! @ Barbara Flexner’s House. No need for membership dues at this celebration! This is the perfect opportunity to connect with a diverse group of women, and to find out what Or Nashim is all about. In addition to the latkes and salmon we are asking each guest to bring (but not required) dairy pot-luck sides, beverages, or desserts to add to the buffet. RSVP!

COH Book Club: Wonderful Books and Thought Provoking Discussion

COH Movie Night
7:00 pm Saturday, December 11 | It's time to get back to the movies! Join us for ON BROADWAY. An all-star cast tells the inside story of Broadway theatre, and how it came back from the brink thanks to innovative work, a new attention to inclusion, and a sometimes uneasy balance between art and commerce. Featuring key players, the film goes behind the scenes of Broadway’s most groundbreaking shows, from A Chorus Line to Hamilton. Including performances by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Patti Lupone, Bernadette Peters, James Earl Jones and Mandy Patinkin, ON BROADWAY is a hurly-burly ride through Times Square, once again the main street of American show business. A Storyville Films Production. RSVP

What's Hot and What's Not... In Israel
11:45 am Wednesday, December 15 | Mark your calendar to join Rabbi Mario Karpuj. Offered via Zoom, Rabbi Mario conducts an informal, and always lively, discussion about current events happening in and about Israel from Israel. Study materials & link posted to homepage.

Daytime Book Club @ COH
1:30 pm Wednesday, December 15 | 'Lite' reading, perfect for anyone home during the day who loves to read, talk, and share a laugh or two. All members are invited to join... walk-ins (and Zoom-ins) are welcomed. Books are chosen and discussion is led by participants. This month's selection.
