Tisha b'Av... Beyond the Destruction
8:30 pm Wednesday, July 29 | Tisha b'Av, the 9th of Av, is our collective Jewish day of commemorating historical trauma and grief. Traditionally, Tisha b'Av was about mourning the loss of the Temple in Jerusalem that ushered in an era of exile - and upon the creation of the Jewish state in Israel and our return to Jerusalem, many wondered: do we even need Tisha b'Av anymore? But in a world full of brokenness, alienation from one another, racism, violence, and dehumanization, not to mention a global pandemic, it is clear how relevant the themes of Tisha b'Av still are today. Join us on Zoom for songs, reflections, and, chanting the book of Eicha/Lamentations. Read more about the fast and other Tisha b'Av ritual practices here; the fast begins at sundown on Wednesday evening. Thank you for your RSVP (by 5PM day of event)!

These past five months of this pandemic have been profoundly distressing for so many of us, and yet have affected each of in different ways. Seeing this moment through the lens of trauma, both from a Jewish historical perspective and a scientific perspective, can help us gain new insight and clarity. Rabbi Lauren will be in conversation on Zoom about these topics with Dr. Nancy Henderson, a pediatrician who specializes in evaluating abuse and neglect, and who also happens to be her mom.
