In the Week Ahead

The office is open so long as it is safe for the staff to be here.
We have made plans for remote access if we need to work from home.
Or Hadash will continue to Zoom all services, classes, life-cycle events,
and meetings for the foreseeable future. We will be guided by advice from the CDC, NIH
and other science and health experts for when it will be safe to change these plans.

We are here to answer your questions

Scout Shabbat
6:30 pm Friday, February 19 | Join us for Kabbalat Shabbat service when we welcome members of the MJCC's Cub Scout Pack 1818 (and all Scouts) at our annual Scout Shabbat. We encourage Scouts to show up in their Class A/B uniforms -- and have a costume ready! Participants will sing, recite the Scout oath and law, and join in a special Purim themed event! Afterword, Scouts are invited to their own breakout room for a “Zoom Oneg"!

One Prayer Deep Dive: A Siddur Book Club
8:00 am Tuesday, February 23 (follows Minyan)
If you’ve ever sat in services and wished that you could better understand just one prayer at a time before moving onto the next one, this class is for you! Led by Rabbi Lauren, we’ll gather on Zoom to journey prayer-by-prayer through the morning service, looking at just one prayer a week (and occasionally, over multiple weeks). No Hebrew knowledge or prayer expertise required... just bring your questions, curiosity, and a siddur/prayerbook if you have one (we’ll also be sharing text on screen for those who don’t have a siddur at home).

Daytime Book Club
1:30 pm Wednesday, February 24 | 'Lite' reading, perfect for anyone home during the day who loves to read, talk, and share a laugh or two. All members are invited to join... walk-ins (Zoom-ins) are welcomed. Books are chosen and discussion is led by participants on Zoom platform. For more information about this book club, contact Harriet Kaminsky (hkaminsk@bellsouth.net) or Hanora Rosen (hanoralrosen@gmail.com). Review this month's selection.

Or Nashim Zoom Event
7:30 pm Wednesday, February 24 | All women and daughters of Or Hadash are invited!
Join us in observing Taanit Esther. Queen Esther's Strategy and Ours! Or Nashim plans for the year ahead.

What's Hot and What's Not... In Israel
11:45 am Wednesday, March 3 | Join Rabbi Mario Karpuj on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, from Israel! This formally onsite event is now being conducted via Zoom platform continuing the same informal, and always lively, discussion about current events happening in and about Israel. The Zoom connection will be on our website's homepage along with any study materials provided.

ACFB Hunger Walk/Run (March 7) 2021 Is Virtual!
Hunger Walk Run is a critical fundraiser for the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) and our many hunger relief partners in metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Right now, the community is counting on us to continue to respond to this emergency. There is a ripple effect for families and seniors already facing hunger prior to the pandemic and many continue to face incredible hardship as they are faced with unemployment and homelessness. Statistics: 13% of all people, 16% of children, and 8% of seniors in Metro Atlanta are food insecure—they don’t know where their next meal will come from. Click here for complete information and to join our COH teams!

COH Book Club: Wonderful Books and Thought Provoking Discussion
7:00 pm Wednesday, March 10 | View Schedule and Book Selections
This season, our book club members have chosen their own books. All meetings will be conducted via Zoom platform (link will be posted to the homepage) and airs monthly on the second Wednesday (unless otherwise noted). For additional information about this club, please contact Cheryl Hecht @ cohbookclub@aol.com.

Purim Off Ponce at the Drive-In
7:00 pm Saturday, March 13

Or Hadash is a community partner in this year's annual Purim Off Ponce hosted by The Southern Jewish Resource Network for Gender & Sexual Diversity (SOJOURN). Join us at the movies! Click the graphic for event details and to purchase tickets.

Are you interested in making new connections with other members? Are you looking forward to in person meetings, but don't want to wait to make a new friend or share ideas on a common interest?

The COH Membership Inreach Team is looking for participants in a program we're calling "Pan Pals". Open to all age groups, we want to help foster new connections within the community.

Participation is simple. Each Pan Pal will be paired up with another Pan Pal and commit to staying in contact via text, email, phone, or mail. The word mitzvah comes from the root tzavtah, meaning connection. The very core of a good deed is how it connects us with others. In our current times, we have to discover new ways to connect with and support one another.

If you, or a family member, are interested in being a Pan Pal, please email Karin Golan at karinegolan@gmail.com, or contact COH directly @ communication@or-hadash.org. Include your contact information and your interests. We look forward to making new connections for you, and our community! --The Membership Inreach Team

Art & Jewish Life: Ceremony, Culture, Context
Thursdays in March and April (3/4, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8)

Are you interested in learning more about the role of artists, architects, and artisans in Jewish life? Would you like to become an expert in one small piece of our history?

This is a small group study seminar where we will learn and teach one another about the art and artifacts of Jewish ritual and daily life from antiquity to modernity, with a few stops in between. The group will be limited to eight people, and over a four week period each participant will present a 20 minute illustrated talk on one of the topics. A willingness to learn and some knowledge of PowerPoint are the only prerequisites.
