Torah in the Woods

New learning for 5783! Torah in the Woods moves beyond the Torah.

Have you ever wondered what happens in the Hebrew Bible after Deuteronomy - if you turn the page forward instead of flipping back to Genesis? There is a whole world of Jewish history and story and poetry that follows in the Prophets and the Writings, and this year we are setting out to explore it, joining Jews worldwide in the 929 project started by the Israeli Education Ministry. We meet every Tuesday at noon via Zoom, with sessions led by Rabbi Lauren or Dr. Amy. Come when you can, even if not every week; no experience or Hebrew knowledge is expected or required. If you've ever felt, "You know, I really should read the whole Bible sometime," now's the time. As Hillel said, "If not now, when?"

All are welcome. Click here to join the meeting.

Evening Book Club

The Genius of Israel, by Dan Senor and Saul Singer

Non-Fiction, 336 pages, Facilitated by Shlomit Ritz Finkelstein

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * How has a small nation of 9 million people, forced to fight for its existence and security since its founding and riven by ethnic, religious, and economic divides, proven resistant to so many of the societal ills plaguing other wealthy democracies? Dan Senor and Saul Singer, the writers behind the international bestseller Start-Up Nation, have long been students of the global innovation race. But as they spent time with Israel’s entrepreneurs and political leaders, soldiers and students, scientists and activists, ultra-Orthodox Jews, Tel Aviv techies, and Israeli Arabs, they realized that they had missed what really sets Israel apart. Bold, timely, and insightful, Senor and Singer’s latest work shines an important light on the impressive innovative distinctions of Israeli society—and what other communities and countries can learn.

Please RSVP for dinner.
