Dori's Bat  Mitzvah Project

Back-to-School Mitzvah Project

Hi, I'm Dori Kossman, and ever since I was a little girl I have truly loved school and always enjoyed helping younger children, which is why I want to be a teacher when I grow up. Research shows that kids who have school supplies of their own have better classroom behavior, higher grades, stronger self-esteem, and develop better attitudes toward school and learning. School supplies cost parents an average of $60-$75 per child, which is a difficult seasonal expense for families who live on a tight budget or suffer from a financial setback such as a job loss.

This is why I am so excited that my Bat Mitzvah will take place Saturday, September 25, 2021. For my mitzvah project, I will be donating school supplies to children in need at schools in our community through two local non-profit agencies: The Community Assistance Center (CAC) Tools For School Project and Solidarity Sandy Springs. I will also be helping to pack and distribute the backpacks to local school children in early August. These two agencies each have a goal of distributing 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, which combined will benefit 2,000 children in need in my community.

I hope you will join me in support of my bat mitzvah project. Below is a requested list of school supplies. I will be collecting supplies through July 2nd. If you want to contribute, I have placed a collection bin in the lobby at Or Hadash for your deposits!

Thank you so much for your generosity and support!
